Aura Vence A pint-sized, versatile and energetic performer who smoothly segues from light character comedy to meaty dramatic roles, Aura Vence resists being stereotyped into the usual roles allotted for minority actresses by finding the reality and dignity in her characters.
Aura was born in Panama and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She was exposed to the arts at a young age performing in various dance groups and theatre productions. Her interest in theatre grew in college and lead to her debut in the play, “ For Colored Girls”… After college she turned down law school offers and turned her acting hobby into a full time mission.
Aura has been involved in films, television and theater. She has worked with the likes of John Leguizamo, Peter Scarsgaurd, Michael Wright, Tatianna Ali, and Jennifer Lewis. She recently finished the much-anticipated female ensemble comedy, Nora’s Hair Salon with Whitney Houston, Tamala Jones, Bobby Brown, and Lil Kim. Aura starred in the Hip Hop comedy, The Hu$tle for Lions Gate Films starring Dr. Dre, Ed Lover, Drag On and Ernest Thomas (What’s Happening). She has also guest starred on television shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent and 100 Centre Street.
Aura will be co-starring in the highly anticipated feature film, From the Outside Looking In with Allen Payne, Mos Def, Terrence Howard, Wood Harris, Isaiah Washington, and Monica Calhoun this fall.

JAY WARD received his theatrical training at Circle in the Square Theater School. actor, His film/TV credits include a was recent casting in Fox Television’s new hit show Arrested Development. He has also appeared in several independent film projects—both comedies and dramas--including Puddle Cruising, Silence, Goose Down, The Last Blackface, and The Lower East . His theatrical credits include: The Breakout by Oyamo, P.J. Gibson’s Brown Silk and Magenta Sunsets, Ed Bullins’ Street Sounds , and one of his most memorable roles as MacDuff in Shakespeare’s MacBeth . He is also a poet/musician and performance poet, having read and performed with various bands at the Nuyorican Poets CafÈ as well as other venues in NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Toronto. As a producer, he mounted the first NYC revival of Laurence Fishburnes’ play Riff Raff , in which he also played the leading role of 20/20 Mike. He is currently producing a documentary on the NYC slam poetry scene—past and present. Mr. Ward holds a Bachelors Degree from Colgate University and a Master’s Degree in Urban Studies/Planning from the University at Buffalo. He is always looking to do more film, television and/or theater.

Hazel Holden

Hazel Holden was born in Brooklyn and raised in Harlem USA. She earned her Bachelor's degree at Queens College making her a true Native New Yorker. Her loveof travel has taken her throughout the United States and Europe, where she settled in France for a few years. Hazel is a Screen Actors Guild member and has appeared in various television commercials and industrials including Visiting Nurse Service of New York and a Burberry commercial with Foxy Brown. Film Credits include At The Park and Silence.

 



Evoyne Harris

Leaving Georgetown, Guyana to live in Illinois in 1968, Evoyne obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from DePaul University. After working at an engineering company for over 15 years, she began working at the headquarters of a very large law firm in Chicago, from which she transferred to a New York office in 1992 and where she is currently employed as a Practice Assistant.

An actress since 2000, her credits include THE JURY (a juror) which is aired on Fox TV, the feature film THE INTERPRETER (the Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo) with Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn, What Goes Around (Nurse), Shock Act (Corrections Officer), Brothers Gonna Work It Out (Commissioner), Silence (An Apparition), How Clean Is My Laundry (Miss Mary, a spiritualist), and Between the Lions for Alliance TV for Children (Library Patron). Evoyne has also done a number of commercials.

Her hobbies: gardening, cooking, reading, fishing, traveling, and watching old movies.

Hilda Evans

Hilda Devoine’ (Evans) an accomplish actress, vocalist and writer begin her stage career at age two which continued through her college years. She received a degree in the field of medicine, and worked while raising her four children. Upon retirement, she resumed her career in acting, performing on several phenomenal television shows such as the Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle shows, The Vagina Monologues, and The Sopranos,to name a few. She also performed in films, which were featured in the Tribeca, Sundance and Harlem film festivals. A poet for many years as well, Hilda has won many awards for her poetry; her recent works appearing in Who’s Who in International Poetry. As a vocalist her successes include a recent acceptance into the well-known choir of Rev. Billy, which presents concerts locally and in Europe. Hilda will tour London with the choir in the winter of 2004. When commenting on her achievements, she states “My greatness has not been reached as yet and I look forwarded for the Universe to open many more opportunities for me to conquer”.

Eric Bryant - Editor

Eric's credits run the gamut of independent film and television, both narrative and documentary. He possesses an MFA from Chapman University’s School of Film and Television where he received the top editorial award --The Artistic and Technical Merit Award in Sound and Editing.

Currently, Bryant works as an online and offline editor for Kinetic Imageworks in Los Angeles. At Kinetic he has worked with the award winning filmmakers of two HBO feature films -- Real Women Have Curves and Maria Full of Grace. He has also worked with producer/director Rory Kennedy on her 5 part Series entitled Pandemic: Facing AIDS. Additionally, his work in the world of short films has been noteworthy as both of his recent projects, Gretchen Brettschneider Skirts Thirty (Producer / Annie Oelschlager) and silence (Director / Mateen O. Kemet) have gone on to win numerous awards worldwide and continue to receive high praise for their editorial workmanship.

Eric's most recent projects include a documentary for Harley Davidson (produced by Robert Kline for Sony Shout Factory) and a feature length animated cartoon for Urban Entertainment entitled, The Golden Blaze.

David LeVine - Director of Photography

Born and raised in New York City, David has enjoyed several other careers before entering the film business, including logging and fishing in Alaska and many years spent as a shell fisherman in the bays of Long Island and New Jersey.
David became a film electrician in the early eighties then purchased a lighting company, Stark Lighting, in 1990. After working his way through the ranks, in the late 90’s he began shooting as a Director of Photography, lensing mainly shorts, student films, and small budget, “indie” features.

Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts.† After playing basketball at Babson College in Wellesley, MA, he transferred to the University of Southern California Cinema School where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cinema Productions.† Beginning his film career working on low budget features, music videos and commercials, he worked his way up the camera department ladder to Director of Photography where he has shot over 100 music videos, 50 commercials, several award winning short films, many documentaries and a feature film.†

Daniel Solammon - Composer

Daniel’s music has been heard in many different lights. Whether as a trumpet player in the Ellis Marsalis Big Band, as a musician/composer in the UNO Europe Jazz Band, on film, or on J Records and Capitol Records with Shawn Kane and Van Hunt, Mr. Solammon has explored the worlds of jazz, R & B, and classical music to find his unique sound as a composer.

Mr. Solammon's film credits include, among others, Somnath Sen's "Leela", Sarah Johnson's "Groundskeeper", Tristan Guild's "Broadcast", and Mateen Kemet's "Silence".

Kirk Shannon – Butts - Set Design

Kirk Shannon-Butts is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. Affectionately known as boi WONDA to his friends, Kirk is a 2000 graduate of Chapman University’s Cecil B. DeMille’s School of Film & Television where he received a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Film & Television Production.

While seeking his degree, Shannon-Butts assisted with the careers of celebrities such as actress Anna Maria Horsford (Nutty Professor II, Friday), director Robert Townsend (Hollywood Shuffle) working under the tutelage of Hollywood publicist Kenneth Reynolds.

In Shannon-Butts’ new film “Beneath the Surface” the subject is beauty. “Beneath the Surface” is full of beautiful images of Black men channeling the B-boy, the Homo Thug, the Handsome Man and the Shaved Head Muscle Guy. A twist of modern urban fantasy with the Greek myth of Narcissus, Beneath the Surface” is a poignant study of beauty.

Complete Abandon,” Kirk’s graduate thesis film, premiered at The Jamerican Film Festival and has since screened throughout the world including FESPACO (Burkina Faso), Hollywood Black Film Festival, San Francisco LGBT Film Festival, Uptown Filmmakers Group’s Film Market (New York City), African in the Picture Film Festival (Amsterdam) and the prestigious Kennedy Center (Washington, DC).

Additionally, when not making his own films, Kirk hones his considerable talent and skill as a Set Designer, most recently serving in that capacity for Mateen Kemet’s award winning film “silence”.

“My goal is to balance cinema through provocative stories and images of those members of the American landscape not fully addressed in Hollywood movies.”
